Project overview
The project involves the construction of a new foothill motorway linking the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway and the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway with the aim of:
- connect the highway network, eliminating the interference of medium-long distance traffic with the urban area of Palermo;
- improve and enhance the extensive network connecting major urban centers;
- restore the Palermo ring road to its primarily urban functions, relieving it of the current negative impact of heavy traffic, especially heavy goods vehicles
The construction of the new foothill axis will streamline extra-urban and interprovincial traffic, which currently travels alongside Palermo's urban traffic on the only existing link between the two motorways of the Viale della Regione Siciliana, which is effectively an "urban" artery.
The project section originates from the connection with the A19 Palermo–Catania highway and ends at the connection with the A29 Palermo–Mazara del Vallo highway in a seamless solution.
