Feasibility study, preliminary and final design


The subway in planning Kadikoy-Sultanbeyli (KSM) is a full member of the rail transport planning of the city of Istanbul. The metropolitan area counts over 20 Million inhabitants.

The municipal administration of the city has planned an expansion of the rail transport which will count 482 kms between subway/railway/tram lines for the end of 2019, and for the 2030 the forecast is 1.000 kms.

The KSM line is a branch of the subway line which starts from the “European” area and is connected to the “Asian” one, passing under the narrow of Bosphorus and up to “Altunizade” station where is planned the expansion of the branch which will arrive to the second airport of Istanbul “Sabiha Gokcen”.


The project, was designed by Sintagma – Prota Joint Venture using BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology, concerned the feasibility study, preliminary and final design, that included:

  • 8 km long new metro line
  • 7 stations with 4 intermodal hubs at existing subway lines locations high-speed railway Istanbul-Ankara. All station underground at 30/40 m depth below ground level
  • Architectural and finishing works design
  • driverless and fully automated subway line with capacity of 43.200 passengers for direction.
